Ergonomics

Injury prevention is maximised when tackled from three directions;

  • Assessment
  • Education
  • Provision of appropriate equipment

Assessment

Esperance Physiotherapy provides an onsite ergonomic assessment of workstations.  One of our professional staff will attend your workplace to observe, measure, and advise on optimal office setup, productivity, workstation layout, and recommendations for appropriate equipment if required.

"We engaged Doug to perform a holistic review of our office environment incorporating ergonomic workplace assessments, light and airflow assessments along with general workplace health assessments.

The whole team got a lot out of the process from postural adjustments, decluttering advice and workstation setups to the choice of indoor plants for clean air purposes. We instigated a number of improvements as a result of the process and found the engagement to be fantastic value for money.

The process from start to finish was prompt and efficient and I can highly recommend Doug and his team to any office business environment."

Education

In 2005, the Australian Bureau of Statistics found that “43% of those injured had received no OH& S training”.

Esperance Physiotherapy provides a range of quality, onsite manual handling, and injury prevention workshops. These can be customised for specific workforce requirements.

The Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, provides for the promotion, coordination, administration, and enforcement of occupational safety and health in Western Australia. The objective is to promote and secure the safety and health of persons in the workplace.

Contact us if you would like to discuss your company’s training requirements to minimise this occurring to your workers.

"Previously we have been using Esperance Physiotherapy for our Pre-Employment and Spirometry assessments, and when approached by our crane operators with complaints of neck pain, sought their professional expertise.

From a questionnaire designed by Esperance Physiotherapy, we realised that new crane drivers experienced no neck pain after a shift, but all experienced operators had neck pain. Doug conducted an onsite operator functional assessment and identified several areas that would assist the operators in reducing their neck strain.

These solutions were then presented in small group training sessions to the operators, discussing sun glare, spine function, posture while working, and the importance and frequency of posture breaks. In addition, a specific exercise decal was created, and placed in the cab to encourage operators to optimise their posture and exercise during their shift.

We believe our operators are now better equipped through education, to correctly manage their own posture while working, and in doing so minimise the risk of Esperance Ports Sea and Land experiencing an expensive workers’ compensation claim.

We highly recommend other companies with a similar proactive attitude like Esperance Ports Sea & Land, to use the professional services of Esperance Physiotherapy when seeking a positive solution to ergonomic problems."

Equipment

We at Esperance Physiotherapy can provide the following quality, ergonomic furniture for office and home use.

Sit Stand Tables

Sit-Stand Desks

These fantastic desks enable you to vary your workstation from a sitting posture to a standing posture in a few seconds. Great if different people use the same workstation or if you spend more than a couple of hours sitting per day at the same workstation.

Desks are available with high-quality motors, child safety switches and combinations of single (pedestal), double (straight desk) or triple ('L' shape desk ) leg supports. You can view designs, finishes and other options here. We order for you and absorb the cost of freight to Esperance. All desks arrive flatpack in Esperance.

A key point for spinal posture injury prevention is creating variability of posture so that different muscles are working and relaxing throughout the day.

We use these for staff at Esperance Physiotherapy. Please come and have a look if you are interested.

The essence of a good chair is that you sit in balance, move just as easily forward and backward, and sit still when you wish. The chairs inspire you to change your position regularly - without even thinking about it. In this way, blood circulation is stimulated and you feel better, both mentally and physically.
