Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

Physiotherapists have been primary contact practitioners for over 20 years and a doctor’s referral is not required to see an Esperance Physiotherapy practitioner unless you are claiming the injury through a third-party provider (e.g. workplace injury or Veteran’s Affairs)

Does Medicare cover Physiotherapy services?

Medicare does not routinely cover allied health services like physiotherapy, podiatry & psychology.

However, the recently introduced Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) scheme now allows doctors to approve up to 5 allied health services per year on referral for current chronic or possible chronic conditions (3 months or longer in duration). Please discuss the EPC scheme with your physiotherapist or your treating doctor.

Does private health insurance cover my treatment?

Most health insurance policies with ancillary or extras cover will provide a rebate for physiotherapy services. We provide a HICAPS service to save you time and there is no need to complete any paperwork.

First Appointment Details

To enjoy the full value of your service with us, we suggest that you arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time. This allows you to check in, change (if required), and complete personal detail forms. Please bring any referral letters, relevant test results e.g. x-rays, and appropriate clothing for your area of the problem.

All appointments are between 20 and 30 minutes. Our clinic runs closely on time for your benefit.

Clothing worn will depend on the area of treatment. Generally, we recommend loose, comfortable clothing that will not restrict movement. Please confirm the required clothing before your appointment if you are unsure.

What are the terms for payment and cancellation?

Payment is required at the time of the consultation in the form of cash, phone EFT, debit card & EFTPOS (VISA and Mastercard). We also provide HICAPS claims on the spot for eligible health funds.

If you need to cancel your appointment, it is requested that you provide at least 24 hours. We have a waiting list of clients in pain and they would appreciate your appointment if you are unable to attend. Fees do apply for late cancellation.

Where are you? What parking is available?

Parking and clinic access are via the rear of the building. Assess is on the flat enabling easy entry of wheelchairs and those using mobility aids.

Late for Appointment

Arriving late may unfortunately shorten your treatment time. We regret keeping any client waiting; therefore we need to adhere to all booking times and encourage you to arrive before your appointment time. We make appointments to be fair to you and your physiotherapist.

Mobile phones

To ensure that all clients have a stress-free time with us; we respectfully request that noise be kept to a minimum.

Please ensure mobile phones, pagers, and any other electronic devices are turned off before entering the clinic. Thank you for your co-operation.

General Information

We would prefer an adult to accompany clients 16 years of age and under during their first consultation. We are strictly a non-smoking environment.

If you have a preference for a male or female physiotherapist, please advise our reception team when making your appointment.
